Prince William and Kate have made no secret of their desire for a big family, but yesterday the Prince dropped a heavy hint that eight-month-old Prince George may soon have a brother or sister.

In an unguarded comment during the royal family's tour of New Zealand, the Duke of Cambridge told a woman who had made Prince George a woolen shawl: "You might have to make another!"

Cynthia Read had been commissioned by the New Zealand Government to make a wool shawl for baby George

Mrs Read, who emigrated from Newcastle-upon-Tyne eight years ago with her husband Ken, said: "The way William said it was like he was letting me in on a secret."

Kate spent three days in hospital with severe morning sickness when she was expecting Prince George, so it's unlikely she would want to undertake a hectic royal tour in the early stages of pregnancy - one that includes yacht races and wine tasting.

However, royal watchers are keen to point out that Prince George was conceived weeks after the couple returned from their Far East tour in September 2012.
