Diana's engagement ring PA
Following the long-awaited news of the royal engagement, it has now been revealed that Prince William proposed to Kate Middleton with the engagement ring that belonged to his late mother, Diana.
After eight years of courtship, the Prince presented Kate with the oval blue 18-carat sapphire and diamond ring while the couple were on holiday in Kenya last month.
Diana, who died in 1997, chose the dazzling sparkler when she became engaged to Prince Charles in 1981 from the collection of Garrard Jewelers (the official crown jeweller). The ring cost an estimated £40,000 at the time and it is safe to say between inflation and fame it has appreciated in value!
