Princess Charlotte is set to start school on Thursday 5 September at Thomas’s Battersea.

She’ll be accompanied by The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge and Prince George, Kensington Palace says, when she arrives on her first day.

The young royal, who turned four in May this year, will be joining her brother, who already attends the private preparatory school in south London.

Other famous alumni include Cara, Poppy and Chloe Delevingne, and Florence and the Machine singer Florence Welch.

What is the school like?

It’s a mixed prep school, and pupils start at four years old and finish at 11.

The biggest rule of the school is: “be kind”. It places a “greater emphasis” on a set of core values: kindness, courtesy, confidence, humility and learning to be givers, not takers.

What are the fees for Thomas’s Battersea?

Located in Battersea, Princess Charlotte’s school is said to be one of the top in London – with fees of around £6,500 a term. When a child reaches Year 3, this fee increases to £7,300 – but there are discounts if you have more than one child at the school.

What will Princess Charlotte learn?

“We offer a rich and broad curriculum, with art, ballet, drama, ICT, French, music and PE all taught by specialist teachers from a child’s first day in school,” the school’s website states.

The school is structured in three, three-year stages (the Lower, Middle and Upper Schools) within a framework of ‘Enjoyment, Learning and Achievement’, which “informs a child’s journey through the school”.

There are also a lot of extra-curricular activities available: before school children can join the running club, the swimming squad, karate or cricket club. And from 4pm onwards, there are a wide range of after-school clubs, including fencing, pottery and even golf.

After hearing that she would be attending, Simon O’Malley, headmaster at Thomas’s Battersea, said: “We are delighted that the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge have decided that Princess Charlotte will join her elder brother, Prince George, at Thomas’s Battersea.

“We greatly look forward to welcoming her and all of our new pupils to the school in September.”

What will Princess Charlotte be called at school?

Princess Charlotte’s full name is Charlotte Elizabeth Diana. Her official title is Her Royal Highness Princess Charlotte of Cambridge.

However, it’s unlikely she’ll be called this by her pals at school. Instead, it’s likely she’ll be referred to as Charlotte Cambridge, using her parents’ title as her surname, according to The Mirror

Will there be photos of the young royal on her first day?

If her brother’s first day of school is anything to go by, then yes. Kensington Palace shared photos on Twitter at 9am on Prince George’s first day.

The young royal was pictured with his dad arriving at school on the 7 September 2017.

The Duchess of Cambridge was unable to attend because she was suffering from hyperemesis gravidarium while pregnant with Prince Louis at the time.
