Protesters outside the US Embassy in London have burnt an American flag during the one minutes silence held to mark the ten year anniversary of the September 11 attacks.
According to the BBC around 60 Muslim demonstrators gathered outside the embassy in Grosvenor Square, Central London, on Sunday afternoon and shouted slogans including "Obama, Obama, terrorist" and "Muslims will conquer the White House".
The protesters also carried placards carrying anti-American messages including one that read "'our dead are in paradise, your dead are in hellfire.'
Several of the protesters are said to be from Muslims Against Crusades (MAC), who warned ahead of time they planned to disrupt the service.
Cleric Anjem Choudary from the group said: "We will be very noisy during that time. It will be to expose the crimes of the American government over the past ten years and showing how they have failed.
He added: ‘We are going to be asking were the 19 [hijackers] martyrs? Were the 3,000 [people killed] innocent?’
Members of the group also burned a poppies on Armistice Day.
But the Daily Telegraph reported that a counter-demonstration held by Muslims was staged to rebut the MAC.
One man who had travelled to London to oppose the MAC said: "I'm a Muslim. What they're doing is bringing shame on all Muslims. This is not part of the teachings of Islam.
Another demonstration held by some members of the the right-wing English Defence League also took place.
On Sunday morning the families of some of the 67 British victims of the September 11 attacks attended a ceremony at the Grosvenor Chapel near the embassy.
