Police have described robbers who threatened a baby with a hammer as 'despicable'.
The thugs had broken into the Brooklands pub in Coventry by climbing up trellis outside the building.
They grabbed the landlady round the throat before demanding cash from the safe. They then threatened her 11-month-old grandson and suggested the baby, plus her two daughters, would be attacked with a hammer if she didn't give them the money.
The pair escaped with a 'substantial amount of money' according to the Mirror, and made their getaway on a large, black motorbike.
Det Insp Nick Dale told the paper he believes the offenders are local to Coventry, and is urging the community to help the police in their efforts to arrest them.
"I'm convinced there are people in the Wood End community who know, or suspect, who was responsible for this sickening crime," he said.
"There is no place in society for people who are prepared to act in this way – and they certainly don't deserve protecting from justice."
One robber is described as being in his late 20s, 6ft tall and black, while his accomplice is
white, in his 20s and with a noticeably large nose.
Mr Dale told reporters the police had already interviewed 'several suspects' for the offence but so far no-one had been charged.
"We are now turning to the community for help as that is where we believe the answers lie," he said. "The level of violence used and nature of threats made can't possibly be justified – this was a despicable offence. The lady was understandably very shaken up by the attack and I'm determined to get justice for her and her family."
