The old cliches appear to be the best when buying Christmas gifts, with more than a quarter of men actually hoping to receive socks this Christmas, a survey has found.
TK Maxx found that 27% of men want to receive socks, while 26% would like to receive a present that will help them stock up on their underwear supplies.
Meanwhile, nearly a quarter of women (23%) have kitchen essentials such as pots and pans on their Christmas wish list and 22% want socks or tights.
Researchers suggested that the practical gift requests were a response to the turbulent year for the economy, leading people to expect to receive more basic presents.
The retailer said 1,055 UK adults took part in the study.
