Queer Eye's Karamo Brown Details Past Struggle With Cocaine Addiction

He also discussed how he came to forgive himself for his past actions.

Queer Eye star Karamo Brown has spoken in detail about his former battle with cocaine addiction.

Karamo has previously mentioned his struggles with mental health problems and substance abuse, telling People that for him cocaine became an “escape”.

“I went to a place where I was using this drug and using it early in the morning and in the evening,” he recalled.

He also revealed that at his lowest point he was handing over his credit card to his cocaine dealer, and snorted the class-A drug in a car he was riding in with his mother.

Karamo said: “The look on her face, of hurt, of pain, I was like... eurgh. I put my family through that.”

He went on to say that he eventually “had to forgive himself” for his past actions, adding: “Going through that allows me to talk to people who have addictions.”

Karamo is now best known as a member of the new Fab Five, who burst onto the scene last year in the Netflix reboot of Queer Eye.

Although news of the rebooted show got a mixed reaction when it was first announced, it didn’t take long for the Fab Five to win over their skeptics.

Karamo in particular is recognised by Queer Eye viewers for his level-headed and cool approach to helping those that the Fab Five drop in on, with his speciality being “culture”.

He and his fellow Queer Eye co-stars will appear in eight brand new episodes when the show’s third series debuts on Netflix later this month.

They’ll also be appearing in a special one-off episode filmed in Japan.
