Rafael da Silva has signed a new four-year deal with Manchester United.
The 21-year-old made his first team debut in September 2008 and has sporadically impressed at right-back for the Old Trafford club.
Rafael told the club website: “I am so happy to sign a new contract. I love playing for Manchester United, there is a great team spirit here and a real desire to win.
"My time here has been unbelievable; winning two league titles, a league cup and a Club World Cup has made me hungry for more trophies. I would like to thank Sir Alex for his belief in me and I would also like to thank the fans for their support.”
Sir Alex Ferguson hailed the Brazilian international as "one of the club’s brightest young prospects" and extolled the "no fear" mentality he shows.
"The boy has developed immensely since joining United, his energy and enthusiasm are a joy to watch. Rafael has all the attributes to become one of the best full-backs in the world and I am delighted he has signed a new contract," Ferguson added.
Rafael has made 90 appearances for United, winning two League Cups and one Club World Cup in addition to his two Premier League winners medals.
He has scored twice for the Red Devils, away at Arsenal and at home against Wigan Athletic.
Also as expected, his twin brother Fabio has moved to Queens Park Rangers on a season-long loan deal.
