Ramaphosa: Expect More Of This

The deputy president says state institutions are being used against him.

Deputy President Cyril Ramaphosa has warned that there could be more use of state institutions in the coming months, as the ANC heads towards its elective conference in December, News24 reported.

Addressing an ANC event in Randfontein on Sunday, Ramaphosa reportedly addressed allegations made against him in the Sunday Independent that he had had affairs with eight women. Ramaphosa reiterated his view that this was part of a dirty tricks campaign, possibly carried out by state agencies.

"I think we are going to see more of this...We saw it happening in 2007... [people] were utilised to target certain leaders within the African National Congress and we are seeing a repeat," he said.

Ramaphosa said the campaign was targeting those who had spoken out against state capture.

"We should not allow faceless provocateurs to determine who should lead our movement. We are going to renew this ANC... That money that was stolen, we want it back. Our country is being held back because billions of rands have been taken out of the country through some SOEs."

He said he would not be deterred by the claims made against him and was reportedly met with singing and support by party members.

"Claims have been made against me. I am able to say that this is not going to deter me. Where I have made mistakes, I will take full responsibility [but] I will not be deterred."
