Woman's Kind Gesture To Lonely Older Woman Finds Her A Friend For Life

Woman's Kindness To Lonely Older Woman Finds Her A Friend For Life
|

A woman has told of how she's found a new lunch friend for life by committing the simplest act of kindness.

Brooke Ochoa from Texas was walking into a restaurant for lunch, on her own, when she spotted an older woman who was also walking towards the door.

So she waited to hold the door open for her and, after hearing the woman request a table for one, Ochoa invited the woman, named Delores, to join her.

And it was the beginning of something beautiful.

Explaining how the pair met to her friends on Facebook, Ochoa wrote: "She told the waitress, 'table for one', so I waited and hesitated but then I walked over and said, 'I'm eating by myself too would you like to have lunch together?' She was ecstatic." Ochoa wrote on her Facebook page.

During their lunch together, Delores explained that she lived with her mother for more than a decade, but her mum had recently passed away and she missed her terribly.

She also told of how her aunt had been sent to live in a nursing home, leaving the elderly woman incredibly lonely.

"We had a wonderful talk, and she just kept smiling and saying thank you for listening to me, which made me smile too," wrote Ochoa.

"Her words healed my heart just as much as I healed her lonely one. By far the best decision I've made all year!"

Ochoa added that she will now be having lunch with Delores every Thursday.

Since sharing the news on Facebook, Ochoa's post has had more than two million likes and has been shared nearly 300,000 times.

Many people have praised Ochoa's actions, with one user Sue Kostyniuk saying: "Wishing more young people had a heart as great as yours. Seniors need love too."

"How fabulous, we can change so much just doing something so easy," said Linda Campion. "Good on you girl."

The next time you see someone dining on their own, you know what to do.
