Real Madrid and Borussia Dortmund shared the points at the Bernabéu with the Spanish giants twice fighting back from deficits thanks to goals from Pepe and Mesut Özil.
Dortmund had gone ahead thanks to Marco Reus on 28 minutes and regained their lead after Pepe's equaliser when Alvaro Arbeloa inadvertently looped the ball into his own net as he attempted to tackle Mario Götze.
Roman Weidenfeller brilliantly denied Cristiano Ronaldo in the second period as Madrid laid siege on the Dortmund goal but it was Özil who rescued Los Blancos a point.
Ignoring Ronaldo's protestations, the German clipped in a neat free-kick inside the post as Weidenfeller slowly scurried across his goal, apparently surprised at Özil taking the set-piece.
Dortmund continue to lead Group D on eight points with Madrid second on seven. Both sides can qualify for the last 16 if the German champions beat Ajax and Madrid defeat Manchester City at the Etihad Stadium.
