UKIP MP Douglas Carswell was left red-faced after his five-year-old daughter hijacked his iPad to send a message inviting her father's followers to play Hello Kitty.
The Tweet had the Clacton MP's 28,000 followers thinking the politician was either joking or had regressed into childhood.
It read: "Come play Hello Kitty World with me".
It was retweeted hundreds of times before the confusion was cleared up when the Mr Carswell sent a follow-up Tweet explaining: "That's the last time I leave the five year old in charge of the iPad".
Mr Carswell famously defected from the Conversative party to UKIP last year and trounced his former paymasters in the subsequent by-election.
So you couldn't really blame them when they resisted the invitation to play Hello Kitty, which they did with a curt: "No thanks".
Mr Carswell's initial tweet - which included a screenshot of the game - prompted replies from other users of the social network, questioning why he had posted the message or whether his account had been hacked.
Mr Carswell later responded to political blogger Guido Fawkes, confirming the first message had been posted by his child, saying: "Oooops! That's the last time I leave the five year old in charge of the iPad (but it is a great game!)"
The MP added later: "My five year olds first tweet got read by many more than any of mine"
Hopefully his five-year-old can use an apostrophe better than her father, too!
