From gothic lace to dramatic lines and statement jewels, Britain's brightest stars have been channeling their inner punk on the red carpet this spring. Mohicans optional.

British faces are a familiar sight on the Hollywood red carpet; we all remember Kate Winslet's emotion acceptance speech in Saint Laurent couture at the 2009 Oscars, andKeira Knightley wowed in romantic Chanel chiffon at theAnna Kareninapremier only last year.

However, a new wave of British style has been quietly emerging in the past few months. Hollywood legend Helen Mirren pioneered red carpet style with a punky flare with age-defying pink hair at the 2013 Baftas and soon the floodgates opened, with May seeing a host of Helena Bonham Carter-esque looks, as style stars experimented with edgy looks in the spotlight. Cara Delevingne sported a dramatic black laceBurberry Prorsum dress for the Cannes premier of The Great Gatsby, Lily Donaldson paired deep red lips with smoky eyes for the amfAR gala, and even usually conservativeEmma Watson added studded Repossiearcuffs to her Film Festival look.

Style icons Rosie Huntington-Whiteley and Alexa Chungboth remained faithful to this year's MET Costume Institute gala 'Punk' theme, wearing a Gucci fishnet body and mesh black Erdem respectively whilst other international stars shied away, reaching for more classic red carpet gowns. Our exclusive guide to the most modern red carpet looks from the fashionable young Brit pack details their jewelry, dresses and accessories from May 2013, and certainly shows that fearlessness is definitely in the water back in blighty.
