A director has apologised after Remembrance Sunday was disrupted by staged explosions and Nazi battle re-enactments for the new Brad Pitt film.

Filming for the movie, called Fury, continued in the Oxfordshire countryside despite a plea for the local Watlington Parish Council, the Mirror reported.

Now director David Ayer has apologised for any disruption after a public backlash.

"My heartfelt apologies for any disrespect on Remembrance Day," he tweeted.

"I am a veteran myself. It is an honor to film here in the UK."

He also posted a picture of a Remembrance ceremony.

Producers had sent residents leaflets last month warning them to expect gunfire and explosions.

Speaking on Sunday, parish council chairman Ian Hill said: "Whoever is responsible is insensitive.

"A letter has been sent to express our feelings of how inappropriate it was for Sherman tanks to be rolling across the countryside while explosions were being let off.

"Local people are very angry."
