A remix of Tracy Chapman's classic Fast Car has stormed the charts nearly 30 years after the song's first release.

Twenty-one-year-old London producer Jonas Blue has leapt 58 places to number three in the midweek chart, already beating Chapman's original which climbed to five on release in 1988 and peaked at four in 2011 after it was performed on Britain's Got Talent.

Looking set to hold on to the top spot for a second week is Shawn Mendes' Stiches with over 6,000 more sales than second place rival Justin Bieber's Love Yourself.

Bieber also takes fourth position with Sorry, while Snakeships' All My Friends feat. Tinashe and Chance the Rapper slides up three places to round off the top five.

In the album charts, David Bowie's Blackstar is on course for a third consecutive week at number one.

His records still continue to dominate the charts following his death with three more in the Top 10: 2002's Best Of Bowie at four, Nothing Has Changed at six and Hunk Dory at 10.

Adele logs another week at number two with 25, while Bieber rises two spots to three with Purpose.

British rockers Suede are on track for the week's highest new entry with their latest record Night Thoughts taking fifth place.
