Ricky Gervais has filmed a new comedy pilot for Channel 4 - in which he plays a nursing home care worker.
The funnyman plays the title role in Derek, which is shot in the same spoof documentary style as his previous TV hits The Office and Extras.
His sidekick Karl Pilkington, who found a fan base of his own starring in Gervais' podcast and An Idiot Abroad, will also make his acting debut
in the pilot episode, which was shot in London last month.
In a post on his blog, Gervais explains: "It's an ensemble piece which includes Karl in his first real acting role.
"He's nervous, but he shouldn't be. He's great and I'm only bringing out what's already there, if you know what I mean."
Meanwhile, Gervais has confirmed he's working on a second series of his controversial BBC2 sitcom Life's Too Short, despite lacklustre viewing figures.
