Auditions for the new series were supposed to begin on Monday, but were postponed following the news that Simon’s mum, Julie Brett, had passed away, aged 89.

Wednesday’s auditions marked the first time the new-look panel had been seen publicly together, since it was announced that Rita and Grimmy were replacing axed judges Louis Walsh and Mel B last month.

Rita jumped ship from rival BBC talent show ‘The Voice’ after just one series to take a chair on the ‘X Factor’ judging panel, reportedly lured by a £1.5 million contract.

And the ‘RIP’ singer certainly made a big impression on her first day at the office, wearing a red asymmetric dress and thigh-high PVC boots.

Meanwhile, Cheryl donned a strappy black crop top and high-waisted black flares that showed off her uber-slim figure.
