"I was the best of the worst," Robbie Savage announces proudly. "If it was football, I'd be top of a division, not necessarily the premier league, but not bad."
Savage is very satisfied with his performance on Strictly Come Dancing, which he left only a couple of weeks ago.
"I left in Week 10 of a 12-week competition. There's the right time to retire from football, and there's a right time to leave Strictly, and that was it."
Surely the best of the worst was Russell Grant, who got shot out of a cannon? "He's got a category of his own," is Savage's take.
On the down side, the retired footballer thinks he's ben unfairly pilloried, and this time there's no referee to issue a yellow card.
"It wasn't just me. Everybody was in there," he protests of the idea that he took ownership of the spray tan cubicle before each of his appearances on this season's show. "They just focused on me."
This COULD have something to do with the close-ups the retired footballer and pundit afforded viewers and audiences of his freshly-oranged, super-toned front during even the most sedate of dances.
His energetic performances even got him into trouble, with complaints that his groin-grabbing, hip-thrusting renditions were inappropriate before the watershed. Savage can only say now, "Some people have it in for me - nothing new there then!"
Savage, a professional footballer for 19 years and on the list of the top 50 most capped players of all time, has fresh respect for dancers now:
"It's like a pre-match training regime, it's something else."
Now, it's back to the day job for Savage - radio and TV punditry and broadcasting, as well as, for the first time, a Football Howlers DVD to promote to Christmas.
"I've been the butt of everyone else's jokes for 14 years now," he says. "This is the chance to get my own back."
There's plenty of the usual fare we've come to expect from this type of collection - football bloopers, own goals, gaffes, as well as some beautiful moments from the beautiful game - but has Savage used his editorial influence to save his own blushes?
"I'm in there, yeah," Savage admits, with his characteristic bluntness. "I think I was kicking a ball, which went straight at the referee."
The obviously popular Savage, who received morale-boosting messages from his football pals throughout his Strictly tenure, is nonetheless not surprised by any idea that his fans will enjoy seeing him foul up on the pitch:
"There's one moment that really hurt. It wasn't funny at the time, but I know people will get a laugh out of it. Nothing new there."
