Robbie Williams had a surprise in store for fans during Sunday night’s (26 September) ‘X Factor’, when he “pulled an Adele” and teased new material completely out of the blue.
Back in October of last year, Adele left ‘X Factor’ viewers completely stunned when a 30-second teaser of her then-unheard single ‘Hello’ aired during an ad break, prompting mass hysteria on social media.
Almost a year later, Robbie tried a similar tactic when a clip announcing his new album, ‘Heavy Entertainment Show’, debuted during the adverts of the Six Chair Challenge.
The new footage shows Robbie as a boxer, fighting himself in a surreal and multi-coloured boxing ring, as the title track from the album plays in the background.
In a press release issued after clip aired, Robbie explains the album title, saying: “I was musing over the phrase ‘light entertainment’ – all the huge TV shows from when I was a kid, 30 million people watching them, this huge shared experience of these moments called light entertainment.
“Sometimes it can be leveled at people in a bad way, but for me that’s heavy entertainment. That’s what I’m hoping to do with this album – to have a shared experience with millions of people through the medium of light entertainment…but on steroids.”
The new album, released on 4 November, will include tracks featuring Rufus Wainwright and John Grant, as well as a number of collaborations with long-serving co-writer, Guy Chambers.
‘Heavy Entertainment Show’ will be Robbie’s first studio album since the 2013 swing collection ‘Swings Both Ways’, and his eleventh overall.
