The royals were joined by A-listers including Naomi Campbell, Demi Moore and Holly Candy (née Valance) as they watched Princess Eugenie and Jack Brooksbank’s tie the knot on Friday, but there was one guest who managed to outshine them all.
Yes. We’re obviously talking about Sarah Ferguson.
After arriving fashionably late – by four minutes, which is an age in royal wedding time – Fergie wasted no time in waving to the cameras and bystanders outside Windsor Castle’s St George’s Chapel, where the nuptials took place.
When she exited her vehicle, alongside Eugenie’s sister and maid of honour Princess Beatrice, we got our first glimpse at her hat – which did not disappoint:
What a picture.
Technically no longer a member of the royal family, Fergie is still said to have the Queen’s approval and she made her way into the chapel with Beatrice after Princes William and Harry arrived with Kate Middleton and Meghan Markle.
Naturally, as she raced to the top of Twitter’s “Trends” list, the headpiece fast became a topic of conversation...
And there were a lot of ‘Harry Potter’ references:
By the time the service was underway, more people were tweeting about Fergie than they were the groom.
Just after midday, the newlywed royals kissed on the steps, having said their vows in front of some 850 guests who had gathered in the historic surroundings where the Duke and Duchess of Sussex wed five months ago.
Thankfully, by that stage Fergie hadn’t outshone the bride – but there is still plenty of time for that.
