This Rubik's Cube Takes Seven Hours For Experts To Solve

The Rubik's Cube Is Getting Out Of Hand

Rubik's Cubes were originally an ostensibly fun toy for nerds. Then the 'experts' got hold of it, turned it into the subject for a nightmarishly competitive championship, and things started to run amok.

Now the trend is moving towards ever bigger and more complex cubes which can stump even the brightest rotational minds.

Take this - a cube that ups the game from 3x3x3 to 17x17x17, thus introducing 66.9 quinquagintatrecentillion possible formations into the mix. Which makes it tricky, clearly.

That said, someone called RedKB is good enough at Rubik's cubes (technically Oskar Van Deventer Cubes, since it is he who invented this crazy megacube) that he can tackle even this beast - and film himself doing it, for more than seven hours.

The resulting timelapse (below) is pretty hypnotic, and the end is undeniably satisfying. But if you end up with a sensation of nothing but hollow regret at the end of the clip you're not alone.
