The first trailer for the British series of RuPaul’s Drag Race has been unveiled, and should prove to be a breath of fresh air to fans of the long-running reality show concerned about how the UK version would compare.
All 10 queens from the new series appear in the new (expensive-looking) trailer, which begins by paying homage to classic British sitcoms, complete with cheesy jokes, a vintage-looking living room set and even a low-quality laugh track.
Drag Race being Drag Race, it doesn’t take long for things to get going properly, though, with the arrival of a Donna Summer soundtrack, some killer dance moves and yes, even a singing wig (!!!) to really get the party started.
The first episode of RuPaul’s Drag Race UK will be available to stream on BBC Three from 3 October at 8pm, after which new instalments will be debuting weekly.
RuPaul and Michelle Visage have both made the jump across the pond for the new series, where they’ll be joined by new additions to the judging panel Alan Carr and Graham Norton.
Among the special guest judges in the new series are singers Cheryl Tweedy and Jade Thirlwall, former model Twiggy and actor Andrew Garfield, who offers his critiques in the first episode.
Lorraine Kelly and Stacey Dooley will be the famous contestants on the British version of Snatch Game, while musician MNEK and dancers Curtis and AJ Pritchard will be coaching the contestants later in the series, in a role similar to Todrick Hall’s on the US series.
