At least 36 people have been killed in a plane crash in central Russia, local reports say.

State news agency RIA Novosti said a Russian-made Yakovlev Yak-42 passenger plane carrying a local ice-hockey team crashed during take-off near the city of Yaroslavl, which lies 300km north of Moscow.

It said the plane was on its way to Minsk, adding one other person had been injured in the crash.

Russia Today reported the plane caught fire shortly after take-off. It said several victims were foreign players including members from Czech Republic, Sweden and Slovakia.
