Grimsby: Sacha Baron Cohen 'Should Get Back To Kazakhstan And Die', Former Labour MP Says Over New Movie

Former Grimsby MP Wants Sacha Baron Cohen To 'Die' Over New Movie

A former Labour MP from Grimsby has said Sacha Baron Cohen is "public enemy number one" in the town and should go back to "Kazakhstan and die" after the star's latest movie hit the cinemas.

Austin Mitchell, the former Labour MP of the town Cohen mocks in new film Grimsby, has said Cohen's move it a "total distortion of a wonderful little community".

Referring to one of Cohen's former characters, Borat, Mitchell told Politics Home: "Why doesn't he get back to Kazakhstan and die?

"Being public enemy number one in Grimsby puts him in greater danger than the Kazakh accolade, which only involves hanging by his toenails. We're more inventive than that."

Mitchell, who was Great Grimsby's MP for 38 years, said Cohen's movie - which was shot in Tilbury "so we get all the condemnation for the grot but none of the money film crews spend on location" - shows nothing of the "real charm of our town".

He continued, listing Grimsby's best attributes: "Its sense of community, its friendliness, the best fish and chips in the world at Steels, its pride, its low cost of living and all the other things that make it such a good place to live.

"We're the alternative energy capital of the world. On our new electric chair Sacha could be the first man to be executed by sustainable energy."

The former MP said it's "too easy a way of getting a laugh to kick people who are poor and deprived".

He said: "Every town has some, but given a choice between charmless in Cheltenham, or hopeless in Harrogate, he picks our one industry town fighting back from the death of that industry.

"Shame on you Sacha. We've got fat ladies too like Rebel Wilson, but even the royal family has the Duchess of Zurich."

Grimsby follows Cohen's football hooligan who must team up with his long-lost brother - an MI6 assassin.
