A 24-year-old woman has "frozen to death" after she was locked inside a cyro chamber, where temperatures plummeted to minus 151 degrees Celsius (minus 240 degrees Fahrenheit).

Chelsea Ake's body was found by employees inside one of the therapeutic ice machines where she worked as a manager at a Henderson, Nevada cyrotheropy business.

Local authorities report that she could have been in the chamber for at least ten hours, while a police report states Ake used the machine without any assistance and may have suffocated.

"When they found her, she was rock solid frozen," Albert Ake, her uncle said from his home in Reno.

Investigators ruled that an "operator error" was the cause of the tragic accident.

One of Ake's friends, Shae-Lynn Bee told a local news channel: "I do know that she was alone closing the shop up, and then did go into the machine and apparently did not turn off.

“It's very frustrating to know because you know there are no cameras in there, basically, the only person that does know what happened is Chelsea."

The owners of Rejuvenice had no comment on the accident other than they mourn with the family and are saddened with the loss of their friend.

Cryotherapy is an alternative to cold-water immersion or ice packs, but machines are never used for more than three minutes because of the low temperatures.
