Great British Bake Off's Sandi Toksvig Forced To Step In As Celeb Contestant Big Narstie Falls Ill

Her efforts, surprisingly, went down a treat.

In a Great British Bake Off first, Sandi Toksvig was forced to step in and compete, when one of the celebrity contestants fell ill.

Sandi is used to chatting to the contestants as the fast-paced and chaotic action unfolds in the tent, alongside her co-host Neil Fielding.

However, when rapper Big Narstie become indisposed on the second day of filming, she found herself throwing on an apron and getting a little more hands-on than usual.

“There’s been a development overnight,” Noel explained to the other celebrities, including comedian Johnny Vegas and MP Jess Phillips. “Unfortunately, Big Narstie can’t be with us today as he’s a little bit unwell.

“But he will be replaced by another baker. It’s a seamless swap, don’t worry.”

At that moment, out came Sandi (or “Little Narstie” as she was quickly dubbed), to complete the Showstopper Challenge on Big Narstie’s behalf.

Sandi’s efforts – which were guided by a recipe given to her by the judges, since she’d not had time to prepare – ended up going down a storm, even earning the QI presenter a coveted Hollywood handshake.

However, it was Jess Phillips who truly took the biscuit (we’re very, very sorry for that pun), and was named Star Baker of the week.

This year’s celebrity special of Bake Off, in aid of Stand Up To Cancer, has been jam-packed with ridiculous moments, including comedian-turned-activist Russell Brand’s tribute to his wife’s vagina and Rylan Clark-Neal’s rather stomach-churning efforts.

The Great Celebrity Bake Off continues on Tuesday night at 9pm on Channel 4, featuring broadcaster Jeremy Paxman and Made In Cheslea’s Georgia Toffolo among the contestants.
