A school has apologised after a teacher asked a shocked mum to take photos of her sick daughter to prove she had chickenpox.
The mum, who asked not to be named, told The Sun: "The doctor had said I must keep her away from the GPs' surgery because chickenpox is so contagious.
"He wouldn't do a home visit for the same reason unless it got worse.
"When I explained this to the school I was asked if I could take photos of the chickenpox so they had proof to send to education welfare officers.
"I was very reluctant because the majority of the spots were on her chest, groin and trunk area.
"In the end I managed to take photos of spots on her neck, on the back of her shoulder and a side view so you could see her face. In hindsight I wish I hadn't done it."
St Francis Primary School in Ventnor, Isle of Wight, has since apologised.
Head teacher Angela Hewkin said: "It is not our policy to request photographic evidence as part of our absence monitoring."
