Two people in Scotland have died after testing positive for coronavirus, Nicola Sturgeon has confirmed – the nation’s first such deaths in more than a month.
The first minister confirmed the deaths had been recorded in the past 24 hours.
It marks the first time any registered coronavirus-related deaths have been reported in Scotland since July 16.
And it brings the total number of deaths from Covid-19 north of the border to 2,494.
Speaking at First Minister’s Questions at Holyrood in Edinburgh, Sturgeon added 67 people have tested positive for Covid-19 in the past 24 hours, taking the total of people to 19,988.
On a national level, government figures published on Tuesday showed 41,449 people have died in the UK within 28 days of testing positive for Covid-19 – an increase of 16 on the day before.
Separate figures published by the UK’s statistics agencies show 57,200 deaths have been registered in the country where Covid-19 was mentioned on the death certificate.
