The biological father of kidnap victim Shannon Matthews has said he wants to block the publication of a report into her abduction because he thinks it will upset her.

The High Court was told yesterday that Leon Rose, 33, believes the publishing of the report into Shannon's kidnap - set up by her mother Karen along with her accomplice Michael Donovan - would cause her too much heartache.

Shannon, now 14, should be allow to grow up a normal teenager, her dad's lawyer told the court, in light of a Kirklees Safeguarding Children Board report which will re-examine her 24-day disappearance in 2008

The Mirror reports that Anthony Hayden QC told the High Court that 'nothing can prevent the upheaval that will be caused' if the report is published.

Karen Matthews and Michael Donovan, 44, were both sentenced to eight years for hiding Shannon under a bed in a house near Dewsbury, West Yorkshire in order to claim a £50,000 reward after claiming she had gone missing.

The hearing continues.
