Shay Mitchell’s boyfriend caused a bit of a stir when he implied the actor shouldn’t get an epidural when she gives birth.
The actor, best known for her role in Pretty Little Liars, announced she was pregnant back in June, and has since been documenting her journey on her original YouTube Series ‘Almost Ready’.
In one episode, Mitchell and her boyfriend Matte Babel discuss the birth plan, as Mitchell says she wants them to be “on the same page”.
“Am I partial to no epidural? Yes,” Babel said. “Why? Because I’m a hypochondriac. I’m afraid of drugs.
“My mum didn’t use an epidural. I meet women all the time who didn’t choose to use an epidural.”
Mitchell hits back and asked if he would get a root canal without any drugs, to which he replied: “You love that analogy. Who gave you the root canal analogy?
“A root canal is not comparable because you’re not born to go through a root canal. As a woman, your body is genetically engineered to give birth.”
Safe to say, it did not go down well with women online.
Mitchell revealed she was pregnant back in June, by debuting her bump on Instagram.
“It’s kind of surreal processing the fact that another human is growing inside of you,” she wrote in the comments of her YouTube video announcement.
“It’s exciting, nerve-racking, difficult and emotional all at the same time. Everyone waits for the right time to make the announcement and for me it wasn’t until I couldn’t hide it anymore and was tired of wearing oversized sweatshirts.”
