BBC newsreader Sian Williams has quit the corporation to join Channel 5, she has announced.

The former ‘BBC Breakfast’ host will replace pregnant Emma Crosby on ‘5 News at 5’ in the New Year, after 30 years with the BBC.

Speaking of her new role, she said: "I've always admired ITN's approach to news and 5 News' output, both domestic and international, is consistently high quality and accessible.

"With Channel 5 pledging to boost its coverage even further, it's a terrific opportunity and an exciting challenge to join this talented and impressive team."

During her time at the BBC, Sian was best known for presenting ‘BBC Breakfast’ with Bill Turnbull from 2001 to 2012, and also fronted BBC One’s news bulletins.

Most recently, she has hosted ‘Sunday Morning Live’ and has also worked on ‘Crimewatch’, ‘Goodnight Britain’ and ‘National Treasures Live’.

Emma Crosby is leaving 5 News

Emma announced that she was leaving Channel 5 News, after falling pregnant with her first child.

Posting on Twitter, she wrote: “Some of you may have spotted my expanding belly, I'm off to have a baby! Tomorrow is my last day on @5_News. Thanks for a brilliant 5 years.”
