Simon Cowell has spoken for the first time about the early closure of the ‘X Factor’ musical ‘I Can’t Sing’.
It was reported last month that after poor ticket sales and a mixed reception from critics, the musical - which starred former 'EastEnders' actor Nigel Harman and 'Hebburn' star Victoria Elliot - would be closing down just two months after opening its doors, with the final performance taking place on Saturday night (May 10).

Simon has now admitted the musical, penned by comedian Harry Hill, wasn’t all he’d hoped for, telling Digital Spy: “We took a punt and it didn't work out. If I could do things different, I would have gone to local theatres and built up a following.
“We went in too big a theatre - it's the biggest theatre in the West End.”
Meanwhile, the show’s leading lady Cynthia Erivo has confessed that although she is sad that the production is coming to a premature end, she’s happy with the cast’s performance and doesn’t feel like there was anything they could have done differently to salvage the show.

She also told Digital Spy: “I can only say that from where I'm standing, people have enjoyed it, and it's just about getting people in, that's all it is. We on the stage couldn't do anything more than what we were doing.
“It's natural to be upset when you've enjoyed something so much, and we're all powering through until the end of the week to make sure that everyone has as good a time as we've had in the production.”
It was previously reported that a top West End producer was hoping to revamp the show... with a little help from Jedward.
