An 18-year-old girl has been offered a six-figure deal with publisher Harper Collins after a literary agent spotted her talent online.
Abigail Gibbs was just 15 when she began posting some extracts from her first novel 'The Dark Heroine: Dinner With A Vampire', on Wattpad, an app which enables wannabe authors to upload their work online.
She soon gained a captive audience, with her work notching up a staggering 17 million hits – including one from an agent.
Her book has been described as 'the sexiest romance you'll read this year' and tells the tale of a London girl, Violet Lee, who is kidnapped and held hostage by vampires.
Abigail's publisher Kate Elton brushed aside any likeness to the Twilight novels, telling The Sunday Times: "The fact that she's writing something that feels British - within a genre that's traditionally been American - gives it an individual feel."
Abigail, who is now studying English literature at Oxford University, says she divides her time between writing, studying and her family – fuelling herself with up to seven cups of coffee a day to attend to all three!
What a fantastic achievement for Abigail.
