There are now record numbers of small firms in the UK, they account for as much as 96 per cent of the UK private sector, generating around a third of private sector turnover.
Small businesses employ an estimated 11.4 million, 47 per cent of total UK private sector employment. They are the hard-working backbone of Britain - so it's only right the political parties should explain their thinking in front of this growing and motivated constituency.
It's why Enterprise Nation has organised the Small Business Debate. It's a one-off chance for entrepreneurs to hear the policies affecting small businesses from the main political parties in a Question Time-style event ahead of the election.
Secretary of State for Trade and Industry Vince Cable, Minister for Business, Enterprise and Energy Matt Hancock, Toby Perkins - Shadow Minister for Small Business, Natalie Bennett, leader of the Green Party and UKIP's small business spokesman Margot Parker will outline their small business policies and views in front of an audience of entrepreneurs, start-ups and small business owners.
And there will then be an opportunity to take questions from the floor.
The Small Business Debate, will be the only event of its kind in the run up to the General Election - with its specific focus on party policies relating to small business.
It will be held on Monday March 2 at 6.30 to 9pm at The Great Hall, ICAEW, London, Moorgate Place, in front of an audience of 200 while being live broadcast here.
