A new iPhone app is aiming to solve one of the most intractable and important questions still unanswered by humanity's finest minds:
"Do I need new socks?"
Blacksocks' 'Smarter Socks' is a new venture by the underwear maker to help its forgetful customers never again loose track of their precious foot warmers.
Combining special socials made with RFID tags inside and a bespoke smartphone app, the system will keep track of every individual sock you own.
Using the Blackometer (*sigh*) you can investigate which socks belong together, which need replacing, how often you've washed them and when your new socks were dispatched.
The company said: "Together, the Sock Sorter we have developed and our iPhone app mean that nothing can go wrong and your iPhone can communicate with your socks."
Cynics might say it looks a bit gimmicky - and let's be honest, this is mainly for chaps with a gadget obsession bordering on the medical.
But is it a fun use of tech to make one of life's dullest tasks a bit more unnecessarily complex? Almost certainly. Have at it, obsessive compulsives.
