Soldier Tony Williams was told he would never walk again and would not be able to father children when he was left paralysed from the waist down after being shot in Afghanistan.
But now, three years on, he has not only started to walk, but also discovered his bride-to-be is pregnant!
Tony, 29, said it was all a 'miracle'.
"It's almost made the three years of agony worth it. Life for me now is pretty sweet," he said. "If there are such things as guardian angels, I definitely have one."
Tony is lucky to be alive after twice cheating death in a month as he served in the Royal Nursing Corp in Afghanistan in 2010. He was first hit by an exploding grenade, before later being shot four times while going to the aid of an injured fellow Soldier.
Despite his paralysis, and one of the bullets still being lodged in his groin, Cpl Williams, of St Helens, Merseyside, has learned to walk again with the help of a leg brace.
"I beat the odds and got back on my feet," he told the Metro. "I pinch myself thinking, 'Is this really happening'?"
He and his partner Sharon Shaw, 29, are expecting a baby girl in the new year.
"I celebrated by painting the nursery pink," Tony said.
