The director of Sonic The Hedgehog has promised to make design changes to the character following a backlash to a trailer for the film

Earlier this week, fans criticised the appearance of the reimagined blue hedgehog made famous in various computer games, after they were provided a first look at the upcoming movie.

They took particular aim at Sonic’s human teeth and his “disproportionate” legs that bosses had created using CGI technology.

However, director Jeff Fowler has now vowed to change the design ahead of the film’s planned November release.

He tweeted: “Thank you for the support. And the criticism. The message is loud and clear… you aren’t happy with the design & you want changes.

“It’s going to happen. Everyone at Paramount & Sega are fully committed to making this character the BEST he can be… #sonicmovie #gottafixfast.”

It is unclear how exactly the design of Sonic will change, and if animators will now go back to the studio to tweak the whole film.

The voice of Sonic is being provided by Parks And Recreation actor Ben Schwartz.

Jim Carey will also play baddie Dr. Eggman, with the film marking his return to live-action after a long absence.

It also stars James Marsden, who you might recognise from X-Men, 27 Dresses and Hairspray.

Sonic The Hedgehog first appeared in a 1991 video game of the same name. He is known for being able to run at extremely high speeds.
