Fans expected further details to be revealed during that evening’s show, but hosts Ant and Dec didn’t give them any more information.
They simply said: "We should tell you that Spencer has unexpectedly left the jungle and he will not be returning to the camp.
"Unfortunately, there is nothing more we can tell you about this."
Spencer also didn’t feature in any of the footage from the previous day in the jungle.
Confirming his exit in a statement, an ITV spokesperson had said: “Spencer Matthews has left the jungle. We're sorry to see him leave.”

A source added to The Mirror: “He has left the jungle on medical grounds.
“He was a great booking and was shaping up to be a great character. We are sorry to see him go.”
Viewers saw Spencer take on hist first Bushtucker Trial alongside fellow late-comers Ferne McCann and Vicky Pattison on Thursday night.
After losing the challenge, he hadn't even made it into the main camp before leaving the show, having been banished to Snake Rock.
Before entering the jungle, Spencer claimed he wanted to last as long as possible in there, telling Digital Spy: "I want to be challenged, physically and mentally. I enjoy putting myself through strenuous experiences – whether it be sporting experiences or giving myself goals.
"I'd like to be a finalist. I'd like to be there for the duration. That's my main aim."
'I'm A Celebrity' continues tonight at 9.40pm on ITV.
