The much-discussed Spice Girls reunion appears to have taken an interesting turn, with reports now suggesting that new music from the girls could be coming soon.
Don’t get too excited, though, as it seems Victoria Beckham and Mel C are still both resisting taking part (for now, at least).
Yes, nine years on from the release of number-11 smash ‘Headlines (Friendship Never Ends)’ it has been claimed that Emma Bunton, Geri Horner (or y’know, Halliwell to me and you) and Mel B have been in the studio together “laying down” some “fresh new tracks” (as the kids say) to commemorate 20 years since their debut single was released.
The Mirror has published photographs of the three Spice Girls heading into a recording studio in London, while Eliot Kennedy - who worked with the girl band on their sophomore album - added fuel to the speculation with this tweet:
Although she didn’t elaborate further, Mel B confirmed that she’d met up with Emma and Geri, and later told The Mirror: “It’s funny, because back in the day people thought we had everything written for us but we’ve always written all our own songs. That’s why we’ve won Ivor Novello awards and all sorts.
According to the newspaper, there is no formal record contract in place to release the music, though they claim there is “already a lot of interest” in the industry.
A Spice Girls reunion is something that has been speculated about for a number of months, in the lead-up to the 20th anniversary of ‘Wannabe’ topping the charts.
Initially, it was claimed that the band (minus Victoria Beckham, who apparently has better things to do with her time), were going to be touring.
However, these plans were reportedly thrown into disarray when Mel C bowed out, instead preferring to focus on creating a new solo album.
