It's one of the most eagerly-awaited comebacks in musical history (tu us, at least), and it seems Simon Cowell now is keen to get in on the Spice Girls' reunion.
The 'X Factor' boss is said to be "desperate" to sign the girlband, amid rumours they will reunite to celebrate their 20th anniversary later this year.
According to The Sun, he made Mel B a formal offer for the girls to sign with his Syco record label, when she filled in for Nicole Scherzinger at 'X Factor' auditions on Friday (17 June).
A source told the paper: “Simon is desperate to make a new Spice Girls album. He doesn’t want to miss out after the first time around.
Apparently Mel remained coy about the offer, telling him they had not yet finalised their plans.
Victoria Beckham has reportedly ruled herself out of rejoining the group, while Mel C is also said to have pulled out, leaving just Mel B, Emma Bunton and Geri Halliwell to reform.
Simon famously passed up the chance to sign the Spice Girls in the 1990s, with the group later inking a deal with his rival Simon Fuller.
The music mogul then spend millions trying to launch rival girlband Girl Thing, only for the group to flop.
He called his decision to pass up on the Spice Girls the "biggest mistake" of his career during an interview with Jay Leno in 2013.
During an guest appearance on 'American Idol' in 2009, Victoria also said: "He is the only man in the music industry who turned down the Spice Girls – and said we would never work. I like that fact."
