More than 18,000 children and one X Factor Finalist have set a new record for an alien sculpture made out of plastic bricks (no, we didn't realise such a record was there to be broken in the first place!).
The children joined singer Stacey Solomon in placing the 250,000block onto a giant Ben 10 'Bloxx' sculpture. It has taken more than 570 hours to complete as it grew and grew while touring 10 British cities.
The official Guinness World Record broken was for the most participants - 18,566 - to build an interlocking plastic brick structure and Stacey completed the record on the banks of the River Thames in front of London's iconic Big Ben.
The final structure weighs about a ton - the same as an average polar bear. It is three metres high and three metres wide.
Stacey, who also kick-started the record attempt in Glasgow, said: "The participation of the UK in this record attempt has been incredible. It's so exciting to see the final sculpture after placing the first brick down back in August. Everyone has really got behind the attempt - my uncle even came to see me in Glasgow and added a 20 year old brick that was his as a child."
The record-breaking alien was designed and directed by Kevin Cooper.
He said: "It was a huge challenge to design and build an alien sculpture of this size within the available timeframe but luckily I had the help of over 18,000 kids across the country as my assistants!
"Everyone who was involved should be very proud of their efforts, which have made record-breaking history."
The alien that has been built is named 'Bloxx' and features in the series of Ben 10 Omniverse, now showing on Cartoon Network.
