Steffen Freund has been appointed as Andre Villas-Boas' assistant coach at Tottenham Hotspur.

German Freund spent five years at White Hart Lane having signed from Borussia Dortmund in 1998, and was part of the 1999 League Cup-winning team

He made 120 appearances for Spurs but infamously never scored for the club, prompting the club's supporters to yell "Shoot!" whenever he received the ball.

Steffen’s appointment completes Head Coach Andre Villas-Boas’ coaching team, alongside First Team Fitness Coach Jose Mario Rocha, Head of Opposition Scouting Daniel Sousa, First Team Coach Luis Martins and Goalkeeping coach Tony Parks.

Freund, who won the 1996 European Championship with Germany, Steffen has coached the Germany national side at Under-16, Under-17 and Under-20 level as well as acting as assistant coach to Berti Vogts for the Nigeria national side.
