While many viewers shipped Steve and Robin in the series’ early episodes, it later become known that the two would not be anything more than friends, when she was revealed as the franchise’s first openly gay character.
Maya told Variety: “Throughout filming, we started to feel like she and [Steve] shouldn’t get together, and that she’s gay. Even when I go back and watch earlier episodes, it just seems like the most obvious decision ever.”
