Steps star Faye Tozer has revealed she missed out on the big moment of telling her bandmates she was taking part in this year’s ‘Strictly Come Dancing’ due to a leak.

The singer’s involvement in the show was reported in the The Sun before she was officially announced as a contestant, meaning her bandmates found out about her inclusion before she’d had chance to tell them herself.

Speaking to HuffPost UK at this year’s press launch, Faye said: “It’s really bad because it got tipped off in the papers before I told them. I was such a good girl to keep it [secret]. So I had to phone everyone and they’re really over the moon.

“They’re going to be coming down to see the show. They know how much I’ve wanted this forever. We’re texting daily - it’s lovely.”

Faye also admitted there could be a chance fans could see her perform to one of Steps’ hits over the course of the series.

Asked if she would be up for it, she said: “Yeah, of course I would! Some of the fans have been saying ‘It’s The Way You Make Me Feel’ - that’s the ideal one to do the waltz to that.

“I’ll have to get the fans out,” she laughed, referencing the music video to the band’s 2001 hit.

Faye is one of the more experienced celebrities to be taking part in the latest series, but has once again downplayed her dance background after years of performing on stage with Steps.

She said: “I think definitely it puts pressure on you, but I don’t think I’m really going to listen to that side of things. In some ways, it can go against us.

“The stuff that I’ve done, is a completely different discipline,” she insisted, noting she’s already been told she needs to get comfortable with her partner leading her.

‘Strictly Come Dancing’ kicks off tonight at 7.35pm on BBC One.
