Former Spice Girls singer Melanie C has revealed she turns down ‘Strictly Come Dancing’ “every year”, claiming producers aren’t willing to spend big money to secure stars.
The artist formerly known as Sporty Spice has admitted to the Daily Star that she’s long been at the top of BBC bosses’ wishlists to hit the dance floor, but is yet to sign up for a variety of reasons.
She explained: “’Strictly’ is really the only [reality show] that I would consider and I have had a meeting with them – they ask me every year to do it. The problem is if you do ‘Strictly’ it’s so high profile and you’ll find yourself in the sidebar of shame every day.”
Melanie jokingly added: “And the money’s shit!”
Back in 2003, Melanie appeared as a contestant on the sports-based reality series ‘The Games’, but was forced to pull out when she sustained a knee injury during training.
Her bandmate Emma Bunton was a contestant on ‘Strictly’ in 2006, finishing in third place behind Matt Dawson and winner Mark Ramprakash.
It was reported earlier this year that Melanie had declined the opportunity to take part in a Spice Girls reunion, so she could focus on her own solo material, with her seventh album ‘Version Of Me’ being released later this year.
With Victoria Beckham also ruling herself out, the remaining three members are currently thought to be working on an unknown celebratory project, which they teased in July, to commemorate the 20th anniversary of their debut single, ‘Wannabe’.
