Strictly Come Dancing: Blackpool Week Throws Out A Few Surprises

Viewers were shocked that Michelle Visage's much-awaited Vogue routine received the lowest score of the night.

This year’s Strictly Come Dancing Blackpool special was certainly a mixed bag, with a few surprises along the way.

We have to say all of the celebrities brought their A-game when the show made its annual trip to the Blackpool Tower ballroom, but there were a few moments we definitely weren’t expecting.

Chris Ramsey opened the show with a Salsa to Mark Ronson’s Uptown Funk, and despite him having been criticised by the panel in the past, his routine definitely won over the judges.

The comedian’s Blackpool performance earned him his highest score of the series, including two nines from Bruno Tonioli and Shirley Ballas.

What we definitely hadn’t anticipated was that Michelle Visage’s much-awaited Vogue performance would put her at the bottom of the leaderboard.

The RuPaul’s Drag Race judge paid homage to Madonna’s performance at the 1990 VMAs in full Marie Antoinette garb, and while four eights from the judges is certainly nothing to be sniffed at, a lot of viewers don’t feel her Couple’s Choice routine should have put her at the back of the herd.

And while Kelvin Fletcher and Karim Zeroual jointly topped the leaderboard with 39 points each, the audience in Blackpool clearly felt the latter deserved more.

Craig Revel Horwood’s decision to give the CBBC presenter nine points was met with boos from the audience, with fellow judge Motsi Mabuse covering his paddle with her own 10 score.

Two stars will dance once again in Sunday night’s results show, after which the judges will send one of them home.

Find out how they get on tonight at 7.15pm on BBC One.
