‘Strictly Come Dancing’: Naga Munchetty’s Exit Reignites Racism Accusations

'Is it odd that no white dancers have left yet?'

The elimination of Naga Munchetty in Sunday (16 September) night’s ‘Strictly Come Dancing’ has reignited accusations of racism against the voting public.

Naga is the fourth star to leave the show, and aside from Will Young - who quit due to personal reasons - every celebrity who has left the competition so far has not been white.

Following Naga’s departure, a number of fans addressed the matter on Twitter:

However, not everybody agrees:

A ‘Strictly’ spokesperson declined to comment on the matter when contacted by The Huffington Post UK.

The other end of the leaderboard tells a different story, as Ore Oduba was this weekend’s shining star, picking up three 10s for his sensational jive.

Last week, Melvin Odoom, who was the first celebrity to leave the show, slammed claims ‘Strictly’ is in any way racist, after the departure of Tameka Empson.

“If there was a racist issue we wouldn’t be there in the first place,” he said. “I think it’s got nothing to do with that.

“I think people are just trying to find a story to make out of nothing essentially.”

So far, the series hasn’t been without its controversies, and Will Young clashed with head judge Len Goodman on what turned out to be his final live show, while Bruno Tonioli has already received one telling off for swearing during another.
