Tess Daly has revealed her husband Vernon Kay had a very unique issue that made things more difficult for him during his time in the I’m A Celebrity… Get Me Out Of Here! castle.
In a new interview with The Sun, Tess admitted she was repeatedly moved to tears during Vernon’s recent I’m A Celebrity stint, particularly when she could see that he was struggling.
The Strictly Come Dancing host also revealed that, adding to Vernon’s problems during his time on the show was the fact the 6’3” presenter was too tall for the castle beds, and had to resort to sleeping on the floor as a result.
“Every time he welled up on the TV, I would find myself welling up because I felt like I was going through it with him,” Tess explained.
“I mean I was fed and never cold... but he slept on the floor for two and a half weeks, which the edit didn’t show, because he didn’t fit in the beds.”
She added: “Often he would refer to the girls [on the show] and I would look across to our 16-year-old Phoebe, who is a teenager and doesn’t show that much emotion when it comes to her parents.
“But there was a moment between us where we acknowledged the fact that we were really proud of him.
“Then when he did a little message to me in the telegraph, I was like, ‘Oh God’ – I had to leave the room quickly so the teenager couldn’t see me cry.”
Vernon ended up finishing in third place in I’m A Celebrity, behind runner up Jordan North and eventual winner Giovanna Fletcher.
He and Tess have been married since 2003 and have two daughters, 16-year-old Phoebe and 11-year-old Amber.
