Video Game Enthusiast Takes 'Super Smash Bros Melee' Disc As His Date To Prom

Nothing stands between me and my Mario.

Prom can be one of the most important times in a young person's life, when they're on the cusp of adulthood and want to spend an evening with the people that matter most to them.

California student Chris Burwell obviously spent a long time choosing his prom date, and decided to go along with the one who never let him down, was always by his side and wouldn't falter through thick and thin.

Burwell told New York Magazine he knew it was the right thing to do when he found himself without a human date.

"I thought 'I'll take Melee', because there's such a big fan base and I'm one of those fans," he said. "It felt right. It was the heat of the moment."

Yes, he even bought a floral corsage for the video game.

Chris also told New York Magazine that his preferred character in the Nintendo Gamecube hit is Marth, a character borrowed from the 'Fire Emblem' series.

Burwell isn't the first to give his prom a Nintendo-themed twist - back in 2013 a guy named Terry took over his entire high school cafeteria dressed as Ash Ketchum for a Pokémon themed proposal, in which he asked a fellow student to be his date by popping a note saying "I choose you!" inside a Pokéball.
