In the comfort of your own home you're unlikely to use your iPad for much more than watching 'Breaking Bad', listening to goat covers of Taylor Swift or cruising Tinder.
If your home is on the front line of a civil war things are a little different.
This incredible photo shows Free Syrian Army rebels of the 'Ansar Dimachyk' Brigade using a iPad - and presumably a spirit level app - to aim a mortar.
Possibly not what Apple intended...
Experts insist the practice is "quite common" and has been going on for a while.
Apple - always with their finger on the pulse of how their products are used - actually has a clause in their terms and conditions (shared by many other gadgets and products by other companies, incidentally) that states:
You also agree that you will not use these products for any purposes prohibited by United States law, including, without limitation, the development, design, manufacture or production of nuclear, missiles, or chemical or biological weapons.
But obviously you always read right down to the bottom of the T&Cs - so you knew that already...
